Herman Markowitz

He was the Executive Vice Chairman, Emeritus, of the United Israel Appeal with offices in New York and Israel. Before that, he was Executive Director of the MInneapolis Jewish Federation and Executive Director of the greater Phoenix chapter. He has held executive positions for over 20 years.

Mr. Markowitz has taught at Brandeis University, Temple University and the University of Michigan. He taught Financial Management courses for Non-Profit Executives. He aslo served the "Center of Leadership and Leaning" in New York City.

He was Adjunct faculty at the George Warren Brown  School of Social Work at Denver University as well as Washingto University in St. Louis, Missouri and also Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles, California.

Mr. Markowitz was instrumental in making it possible to migrate around eighteen thousand Ethiopan Jews to Israel in the early 1980s.

In recognition of his dedication to and commitment to community service and leadership, Herman was recognized by University of Minnesota College of Education and Human Development with its Distinguished Alumini Award.

Mr. Markowitz received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota. He and his wife Nancy have three daugters and six grand childre
