System of Profound Knowledge:

Dr. Deming understood system wide dynamics, interconnectedness and interactivity better than most. This laid the ground work for the system of thought he called the “System of Profound Knowledge” that consisted of four components, or "lenses" through which to view the world simultaneously:

  1. An appreciation of a system - one has to understand the whole system to have an appreciation for it.

  2. Understanding of variation - Things don't always turn out the same

  3. Psychology - People are different and one soltution does not fit all

  4. Epistemology, or a theory of knowledge - Knowledge comes from theory that is vetted.
